25-year-old editor for Reason magazine in DC. So all my typos and lazy sentences here are particularly shameful. And yes, it's also embarrassing how much I love my job and how much my co-workers entertain me.
Many -- but certainly not all -- photos here by me. Interests include anarchism, libertarianism, photography, punk rock, old time, history, journalism, poetry, the band Old Crow Medicine Show, magazines, travel, Americana, war, anti-war, the demise of politics, and freedom.

Just give me a scene where the music is free
And the beer is not the life of the party
And there’s no need to shit-talk or impress
‘Cause honesty and emotion are not looked down upon

And every promise that’s made and bragged is meant if not kept
We’d do it all because we have to, not because we know why
Beyond a gender, race, and class,
We could find what really holds us back

Let’s make everybody sing
That they are the beginning and ending of everything
And we are stronger than everything they taught us that we should fear

This band was way better when Virginia Postrel was the editor in chief.

Wait, what?

Against Me! — Walking is Still Honest

If I could make those little heart-things here, I would.

Apparently Tom Gabel is becoming a woman, or so I’ve heard. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/tom-gabel-of-against-me-comes-out-as-transgender-20120508

Weird, but I’ve got my own theory on it. He was the anarchist who won, right? Made a bunch of money off songs about not conforming and subjecting yourself to this societal mess and blah blah blah… so it looks bad for the Game-Organizers, as we’ll call them, for him to end up winning in the end, after saying all this and after they had to work so hard. So now they’re saying ‘haha, look at this guy, the guy who made it — we’re going to make him a woman now’. If we can’t take him down we can at least lower him to the lesser sex. Lose respect of the manly men-in-black(not those men in black, the ones with the A tattooed across their forehead). Of course, they have to make it look like it’s his choice, like he want’s it, but they could have been slipping this in his drink for a long time [Okay, don’t believe me? Look at his actions over time — from album to album, poor to wealthy — notice any drastic shift in there? Hm.]

Nah, its just a theory. And no I don’t believe it at all, sounds like conspiracy to me!

Wait.

What.

Quote reblogged from carpe libertatem with 435 notes

I damn well know that no one is fighting “for me” as I have authorized no one to kill in my name. So please, don’t drag me into the filth and horror of a war I opposed by pretending it is being done on my behalf. And no one is dying for the country. The country is made of over 300 million people, the majority of whom would bring these boys home in the blink of an eye, if it were up to the people. These boys are dying for politicians, not for the people. They were sent to this war by politicians, based on the beliefs and fantasies of politicians. War is government in its purest, most concentrated form. Government is force, it is raw coercion, it is the threat of, and carrying out of violence on others to achieve the goals of a class of men and women who think they have some right to rule over others.

In about a year I went from not shaving my legs for several years to wearing mascara almost every damn day. And actually wearing (incredibly low, but still) heels on several occasions. I am probably going to hell.
Except I wore absurd purple socks and a vintage dress on The Alyona Show, and heels were always more evil than shaving (one of these things is objectively bad for your feet and all…).
And there are few better work places, especially in DC, where I could get away with the clothes I wear. Reason is special that way. My boss who can’t match digs my un-matching fashion sense.
Still. Fucking mascara.
